Categories:

Date:
Wednesday, 21 August 2024

Join our senior curator Elizabeth Douglas for a fascinating talk through five centuries of Royal College of Physicians history through ten iconic items from the museum, archive and heritage library collections.

Covering pioneering medical discoveries, complex characters, and tragic events, discover how the RCP developed from six people gathering in someone’s living room to the patient centred, clinically led organisation with an international reach that it is today.

Featuring objects from RCP members and other individuals with significance to the history of the RCP and the history of medicine such as William Harvey's demonstration rod, René Laennec’s stethoscope and the letters of Elizabeth Garrett Anderson.
