Lacey Contemporary is proud to present a new exhibition featuring works by artist Angela Smith in her first solo exhibition with the gallery.
SURFACE TENSION, builds on Smiths' previous series of works which have focussed on the subjects of ‘Women’ and ‘Creatures’, Angela Smith will once again use her unique and bold style of pouring paint onto the surface of her canvas to create flowing textures of paint and merging abstracted forms which represent the complex contradictions at the core of the human psyche.
Angela Smith has a BTEC Diploma Art Foundation from City College, Brighton and Hove, and a BA (hons) in Fine Art Painting from the University of Brighton. In 2009, she won The Parker Harris Prize in “The Discerning Eye” exhibition at The Mall Galleries, London. In 2012 she was shortlisted for the 2nd stage of the John Moores Painting Prize, and in 2014 was shortlisted for the IR11 Painting Prize, Edinburgh as well as The Tribe Prize at Edgar Modern in Bath. In 2016 she was a awarded an a-n Professional development bursary.
