Edgar Modern is pleased to present its first major solo show of the new year,Rough Deluxe: Sweet Candy and Wild Women a new collection by painter Henrietta Dubrey.

The show will feature an exciting new body of work encompassing both abstract and figurative works.  The bold, vibrant abstracts with their more organic compositions provide the 'Sweet Candy'.  Their jewel-like colours and simple shapes lure, tempt and demand attention. Contrastingly, Dubrey’s uninhibited female figures, or ‘Wild Women’, provide a rougher element to the show. Fascinated with the representation of the female form, Dubrey has created a set of bold powerful women who confidently present themselves to the viewer occupying their bodies with poise and self-possession. Together, the abstract and figurative elements of the exhibition portray decadent painterly abstraction, inspired by the ‘multifarious plethora of images and texts’ which we are confronted with on a daily basis.

Henrietta Dubrey studied painting at the Byam Shaw School of Art, Wimbledon School of Art, and the Royal Academy School. She now lives and works at the westernmost point of England at the tip of Cornwall, known as West Penwith.  Sussex born, Dubrey was drawn to the area by its rich heritage of art and especially that of the post-war St Ives mid-generation artists.

Edgar Modern is excited to exclusively present this new collection which will be previewed at the Affordable Art Fair, Battersea.
