Message from Earth, an international solo online painting exhibition by Rick Gradone, opens on August 01, and will continue until August 31, 2023.
Rick Gradone's work represents the earth in its most stable form, like a snapshot of time, they can be used as meditative objects to consider our inextricable relationship to this planet and its vast history. These paintings conceive of a new religion that centers the earth using rocks as its symbolic icons, as Rick's mentioned in his statement. The inclusion of pedestals refers to the human forms of tribute and worship. The ancient religions formed to harness and connect to the earth's power. In this new religion, our interconnectedness demands a different responsibility to the planet and to each other. This can only lead to more careful and supportive action since no one is separate. Belief has the power to unite us if we let it.

Artist:
Rick Gradone holds a B.A. in Art History from Fairfield University in which he studied painting independently with Peter Michael Gish. Functioning at the intersection of geology and religion, his paintings imagine a new inclusive religion with the earth as its central figure.
Structured as studies for shrines and monuments, his rock paintings imagine spaces of worship and contemplation for all beings and suggest that revelation about this relationship has the power to create a new human responsibility to each other and to the planet. His work has been featured in Marie Claire Maison, Residence Magazine, Architectural Digest, and Medium. He lives and works in Oakland, California.
