Jonathan Michael Castillo’s rearview portraits of unsuspecting drivers is Car Culture, an ongoing photography project that employs state-of-the-art camera and lighting equipment, along with a bit of bravado, to capture real-life moments of LA commuters. The lighting is cinematic and the color saturated, which makes Castillo’s photos easily pass as stills from a movie. But the unplanned participation of the subject also makes them a type of documentary – both a study and an interpretation of LA and its residents.
Join CMATO on Thursday, June 24 at 6:00 PM as we learn more about this emerging visual artist and photographer, his Car Culture series – now on view at CMATO -- in addition to current and upcoming projects.
Admission to Artist Talk: Jonathan Michael Castillo is free for CMATO members and a $6 donation for non-members. Contributions help support the Museum's free public programs. Visit www.cmato.org to register. Members, use promo code MEMBER.
This program will be presented via Zoom.
