Press Release:
Join Lichtundfire and the Artists of SUSPENDED UNIVERSE for an Informal Afternoon with Exhibition Walk Thru and Refreshments on the occasion of Armory Show Week. SUSPENDED UNIVERSE is an exhibition of work in various media by five artists of different generations that highlights the endless artistic possibilities and layers of connectiveness of work created at the same moment in time.
Even though their visual sensibilities and aesthetics can differ greatly, their work is connected by a practice with both a cognitive and intuitive ability that goes beyond the generally expected and commonly known.
All work in the exhibition demonstrates great aptitude, facility, and a level of experimentation as well as distinctive care for the medium. The work ranges from smooth abstract surfaces to rough texture, conceived with nontraditional art materials. There is an obvious determination to excel in the chosen medium and to leave no path unchecked, nearly defying the laws of physics and common sense to make it work.
The show itself aims to go beyond the expected — combining mediums and artists with individual practices that may not be easily thought of as being naturally/usually put in context — while creating a clear conceptual and visual overlap with the individual artistic approaches as different as they may be.

Curator :
DOLIAH FRANCIS is a New York based artist and holds a BFA from Purchase College. Her mixed-media process works hover between painting and sculpture, and – as "accumulations of experiences" – aim conceptually to "blur the line between the mystery of the subconscious and the intangibility of the soul ". With her work, Francis seeks "to inspire this unconscious feeling of connection, to heal vibrational blocks that have formed within us, and to bring us into a state of conscious presence, even just for a moment." This is Francis first inclusion in an exhibition at Lichtundfire.
AUGUSTUS GOERTZ is a New York born, raised and based process artist with a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) in San Francisco, CA. He is mostly known for his abstract mixed-media paintings, besides paint, often conceived with non-traditional art materials. While pushing the limits of paint, chemicals and other materials within the confines of this trajectory, he leaves fluidity for improvisation, experimentation and intuitive processes during his creative act. Goertz is a co-founder of Lichtundfire; he has participated in many exhibitions at Lichtundfire, and is currently working on his solo show in 2020.
MATTHEW LANGLEY, is a New York based abstract painter, and received his BFA from Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. Langley's work has been shown extensively in the United States and Europe through numerous group and solo exhibitions. His work was recently included in Big Circle at M17 Contemporary Art Center, Kiev, Ukraine. This is Langley's first appearance at Lichtundfire.
MIGUEL OTERO FUENTES was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and is a sculptor now based in New York. He obtained a Masters Degree in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology - School of Architecture in Atlanta, GA. His work is strongly influenced by and conceptually based in architecture. Through his art, he creates concepts that experiment with material, dimension, number, light, space, and form. His predominant medium is concrete, a material he was originally exposed to and inspired by working with his father on a domestic project. This is Otero Fuentes first exhibition participation at Lichtundfire.
GERALD WOLFE is a New York based mixed-media painter and sculptor and holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City, NY. Often with the use of non- traditional materials as a key element, he approaches his work in an intuitive way, instilling energy in each piece to accomplish the making of paintings and objects that have also a three-dimensional, architectural sensibility. The final statement of each work is realized when the interplay of lines and shapes create a tension between flatness and depth. Wolfe, a core artist of Lichtundfire, has been part of numerous group exhibition at Lichtundfire to date.
