Joanne Masding is an artist based in Birmingham who makes sculptural work from clay, plaster, plastics, metal, text and images. 'Copy Out A New Shoot' is an exhibition of new work by Joanne and the first exhibition in 'Archive Fever', our new programme for 2022. 'Archive Fever' is a four-part project about collecting and collections hosted by Modern Painters, New Decorators, funded by Arts Council England and produced in partnership with Leicestershire Museums Collection.
Within the Leicestershire Collection, artefacts are digitally duplicated and become physically fragmented, scattering into versions of themselves that are hard to catalogue. Drawn to such items and processes, Joanne's research led her to the extensive botany collection. Once living flora such as leaves, weeds and flowers take on second lives as illustrations and wooden models, replicating and growing across the archive.
