We are thrilled to announce the online solo exhibition Divine Animal by photographer Alexandra Leroux. This digital exhibition offers a unique opportunity to experience Leroux's captivating exploration of movement, abstraction, and perception through the lens of digital photography. Divine Animal is an evocative series that reimagines familiar animal forms, leading viewers into a realm where the ordinary dissolves into the extraordinary.

In Divine Animal, Leroux uses a process of decomposing movement to transform the representation of animals. As the photographs evolve, the figures move further from conventional reality, becoming strange and sublime. The works compel us to recognize the significance of perception itself—"Even if the thing looked at is identical, it is the look at the thing that takes precedence and is much more important," Leroux explains. Her images blur the lines between the seen and the imagined, inviting the viewer to experience a world where the boundaries of reality and abstraction are constantly shifting.

For Leroux, photography is a liberating form of artistic expression, one that channels buried emotions and brings them to the surface. Drawing inspiration from renowned photographers such as Diane Arbus, Sarah Moon, and William Klein, she embraces an abstract approach, believing that an image should disturb, amaze, and challenge the viewer. The photographs in Divine Animal succeed in doing just that, evoking a profound sense of wonder while encouraging introspection.

Leroux's career spans over fifteen years, starting as a personal passion before evolving into a professional pursuit. Her education at the Agnès Varda Photography School and later at the School of Arts in Ixelles deepened her interest in the emotional and artistic dimensions of photography. Her current work emphasizes creativity and imagination, steering away from objective representations to capture the fragility and poetic essence of her subjects.

This online exhibition, accessible from Barbagelata Contemporary Art Foundation, runs from November 15th, 2024. It invites audiences worldwide to experience Leroux’s enchanting visual language, where the divine and the animal merge to reveal the unseen forces that shape our world.

Alexandra Leroux is a passionate photographer with over fifteen years of experience, known for her evocative and abstract approach to digital photography. Her journey began as a hobby before evolving into a profound artistic pursuit. In 2011, she formalized her practice at the Agnès Varda Photography School, where she embraced the idea that photography could capture offbeat moments and deep emotional expression. Furthering her studies at the School of Arts in Ixelles, Leroux delved into the artistic possibilities of the medium, moving away from objective representations to explore themes of fragility, imagination, and the human condition.
