Galerie Wilma Tolksdorf is pleased to announce the solo exhibition JOHANNA DIEHL – CONTINUITÀ, cordially inviting you to the opening as part of The Frankfurt Art Experience 2024.
With CONTINUITÀ, Johanna Diehl presents a sequel of her Italian work series. The exhibition picks up on the artist's initial question of how formal language functions as a manifestation of power. Diehl’s photographic project follows the historical narrative of the Mussolini era and its fascist social concept in contemporary Italy – a highly ideological rhetoric that still serves as a setting for everyday life and political statements.
The works expose the aggressive and majestically presumptuous visual power of the fascist formal language. They point to the self-evident nature of their enduring presence and the appreciative cultivation of their appearance – questioning the political dimension that this self-evidence harbors and what message it sends. In this way, the artist's project explores how power structures inscribe themselves into spaces and continually shape the social.
