Gallery70 is delighted to present an exhibition with recent works by Jon Kraja.
"Pindar, Greek lyric poet says "The Three Graces, those splendid and beautiful triad, linked together by a flow of deep affection, exert a wonderful charm over the hearts of mortals."
Spectaculum II presents three maquettes. The sculptures' heads, are metaphors of the old TV signal jamming and introduce a compelling element of disruption and dissonance. This choice of imagery beyond a childhood memory when the foreign TV signals were blocked , suggest a broader theme of societal discord and technological overload. Jon Kraja infuses to the classical motif of Three Graces a contemporary and conceptual twist.
Accompanying the sculptures are two large-scale paintings. Build on the motive of the sculptures’ maquettes, they become part of the original narrative. The artist's use of acrylic and sand enhancing the visual impact of the works.
The artist's decision to draw inspiration from a monochromatic (or black and white) society suggests the yearning for individual expression. The Three contemporary Graces of Jon Kraja raise the curiosity of the audience towards the complexities of human relationships and the struggle for identity within a modern context."
